The Metavariant Scale
Metahumans have been around since WW2, although there is ample historical and mythological evidence to suggest that they have been around for much longer.
In order to categorise the many different types, scientists in the 1960s created the Metavariant Scale, a classification system that groups metahumans into 5 distinct types.Type 1 – Natural: Refers to individuals born with genetic alterations which sometimes manifest at birth but most often manifest during puberty. Most metahumans dubbed “mutants” are of this type. Type 2 – Environmental: This type refers to metahumans who underwent genetic alteration due to exposure to naturally occurring mutagens, or accidental exposure to man-made ones. Type 3 – Engineered: While encompassing a wide variety of different power types (genetic alteration, cybernetic enhancement), Type 3 metahumans all share a common origin, that they were deliberately created through scientific means. Type 4 – Mystical: Metahumans whose abilities have a magical or spiritual origin are considered Type 4 metahumans. Type 5 – Non-Human: Finally, any metahuman who is not actually a human being by origin, which includes robotic entities and alien lifeforms, are classed as by Type 5 metahumans. There is some disagreement within the scientific community whether such individuals should be classed as metahumans due to their non-human origin,
